Tuesday, 30 May 2023-CV. Putra Bahari Milk Fish Bali, represented by Mr. Kadek Indrawan and Mr. Meddy Davros attended the invitation to the SMART-Fish 2 Program Achievement, which is a collaborative program between the United Industrial Development Organization ( UNIDO ) and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries ( KKP ) and the National Standardization Agency ( BSN ) located in Karawang, West Java.
The above event was attended by the ranks of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, BSN, BKIPM KKP, BUSKIPM KKP, Director of AUP Jakarta Polytechnic, Director of Fisheries Polytechnic of Karawang and UNIDO Private Partners
CV. Putra Bahari Milk Fish Bali has collaborated and synergized with UNIDO to develop market share and increase the productivity of milkfish growing business actors through the provision of quality milkfish seeds and assistance from the cultivation to harvest process. CV. Putra Bahari Milk Fish Bali strongly supports the program run by UNIDO because it has the same VISION for developing the fishery business, especially milkfish farming in Indonesia.
As we all know, the Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency, Bali Province is the largest producer of milkfish seeds in the world. Every year billions of milkfish seeds are produced both to meet export demand to various countries and domestic areas of Indonesia.
However, it is very unfortunate that the demand for milkfish seed for export is only limited to certain months, namely between February and May each year, which in fact is only effective for 2 months, the rest will rely on absorption by the domestic market. This is an obstacle in the milkfish hatchery business because during the export season the market price of milkfish seeds will increase sharply but when the export season ends the market price tends to fall even very low.
Therefore, with the assistance and application of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for cultivation which is thorough and developed by experts from UNIDO for milkfish growers in various regions of Indonesia, it is hoped that it can increase the crop productivity of the farmers so that this business can continue to grow and will also have an impact on increasing the uptake of the domestic milkfish seed market, this is at the same time a solution to the low market price of domestic milkfish seeds when the export season ends.
Milkfish cultivation for consumption has a very profitable opportunity in the future. Milkfish itself is a type of fish that can be cultivated with relatively cheap capital and affordable market prices. Besides that, milkfish also has a higher nutritional content in the form of Omega-3 than salmon and can be processed into various kinds of processed foods, making the demand for milkfish consumption continues to increase every year both for consumption and allotment of tuna bait from domestic and foreign markets (exports).
Apart from that, this business is also supported by the relatively large availability of land for cultivation along the coastal areas of Indonesia which are not designated for conservation or tourism as well as a relatively conducive climate to support the success of the milkfish cultivation business.
All of these opportunities should be maximally utilized to increase the economic welfare of the community, especially in coastal areas. So that in order to make this happen, participation and collaboration with stakeholders at both central and regional levels is needed to be able to take concrete steps for the development of this business in the future.
Finally, we congratulate and express our highest appreciation for the success of the UNIDO program and hope that we can continue to work together for the development of fishery businesses, especially milkfish in Indonesia in the future.
